Blessings of Sobriety
We are going to know a new freedom and a new happiness...
Our whole attitude and outlook upon life will change.
We will intuitively know how to handle situations which used to baffle us.
We will suddenly realize that God is doing for us what we could not do for ourselves.

- Alcoholics Anonymous, pp. 83 -84

Thought to Ponder
Sobriety is the adventure of a lifetime.
And it begins the moment we ask AA for help.

I'm Bill, one of those grouchy ol' timers folks throw rocks at. When I got here all I wanted to do was quit drinking (and getting in trouble, as in the jailer knew my social security number.) I had no idea what would happen with sobriety, still finding new wonderful things and I have a few days. That jailer gave me a nudge, "Bill did it ever occur to you, every time you get in trouble you've been drinking?" But you know, I tried to push that down. Didn't want to hear that stuff, I was having TOO MUCH FUN. (I almost kept a straight face saying that.) I could go to sun up listing positive things that have happened to me in sobriety. Things that wouldn't have if I had not been sober to receive and appreciate them. Just a few: What would I do with all my spare time? mmmm WHAT SPARE TIME? I never get all I want done. What about friends? My drinking 'friends' drifted away to be replaced with real ones. My net worth went from zero to mid 6 figures. Amazing! I have a fine lady as my wife, she is sober 35+ years. What a blessing that had I still been drinking, I never would've met her. I go to bed sober, I wake up sober. Imagine that. And there is so much coming on the new day, I want to be sober to see it, learn from it and enjoy it. Thanks.
