But upon entering A.A. we soon take quite another view of this absolute humiliation.
We perceive that only through utter defeat are we able to take our first steps toward
liberation and strength. Our admissions of personal powerlessness finally turn out to be
firm bedrock upon which happy and purposeful lives may be built..

My name is Tom and I'm a drunk. Ah, the healing *power* of step 1. At first, I used that step to recognize my powerlesness over alcohol. But in time I learned that step 1 is a powerful tool to use in my daily life. When things don't go my way, when frustration set in, when anger wants to control me. I revisit step 1 and give my powerlessness over to God. It is my "reset button" if you will, and it works every time.
