Our next function is to grow in understanding and effectiveness. This is not an
overnight matter. It should continue for our lifetime. Continue to watch for selfishness,
dishonesty, resentment, and fear. When these crop up, we ask God at once to remove them.
We discuss them with someone immediately and make amends quickly if we have
harmed anyone. Then we resolutely turn our thoughts to someone we can help.

Thought to Ponder
Right actions for the future are the best apologies for wrong ones in the past.

I'm Charlie J and I have Alcoholism. When I came back to A.A. to stay I was uniquely qualified to take inventory. Of others that is. I can still do that with the greatest of ease. But of what value is to me personally to do that? How will I grow up or get well, if you like, by facing what you have done and not be responsible for what I have done? It seemed like an uphill battle to come to a place where I can accept others as they are and to focus on myself. I mean really, even A.A. sees the value in different opinions that's why the "group" listens to the minority voice at business meetings. Everyone has a voice in A.A. even if I don't like what they say. Lets face the facts, I almost died before I knew what was right for me. What God's will was for me. Now I'm so sober i can tell what the Higher Powers will is for others! Wow! I guess we do get super powers when we get sober! It's not like I really do know everything like my EGO tells me I do. So to write a 10th Step or to do a mental one? There is only one wrong way and that's not to do one at all. Stay on the path and the directions forward will be forthcoming. Thank you.
