Willing and Honest
If what we have learned and felt and seen means anything at all,
it means that all of us, whatever our race, creed, or color are the children
of a living Creator with whom we may form a relationship upon simple and
understandable terms as soon as we are willing and honest enough to try.
- Alcoholics Anonymous, p. 28
Thought to Ponder
Honesty is the absence of the intent to deceive.
H O P E = Honest Open Positive Environment.

My name is Tom and I'm an alcoholic. I walked into my first meeting and I walked smack dab into a 30 year sobriety celebration. They were having a party for this guy, and I was miserable, dirty, shaking, unshaven. They took one look at me and realized instead of having a meeting of gratitude for their friend's 30 years, they were going to have a 1st step meeting! They sat down in a circle and first stepped me hard. I was blown away by all the honesty I heard. Person after person sharing themselves, offering me help. I remember driving home and the main thing I remembered was that honesty. And I thought to myself, I can do this honesty thing too. Their honesty in that meeting was what gave me hope. And I used that hope to keep going, even when I was so broken. I just kept going and soon I found a sponsor. He showed me the steps and I got better, but it began with honesty. I'm so grateful and grateful to all of you for being here today.
