What often takes place in a few months could seldom have been accomplished
by years of self-discipline. With few exceptions our members find that
they have tapped an unsuspected inner resource which they presently identify
with their own conception of a Power greater than themselves.

My name is Tom and I'm an alcoholic. I still tend to separate the spiritual experience from the spiritual awakening. As most here know, my getting to AA was, at least for me, a spiritual experience. But that spiritual awakening was still 12 steps away. As I worked those steps my values changed, my relationships with others changed, and my concept of a higher power also changed. In fact, life changed, and as life changed, this became my reality. "I get everything I need in Alcoholics Anonymous—and everything I need I get. And when I get what I need, I invariably find that it was just what I wanted all the time." from page 553. Thank you for being here for me.
