Bondage of Self
We were now at Step Three. Many of us said to our Maker, as we understood Him:
"God, I offer myself to Thee—to build with me and to do with me as Thou wilt.
Relieve me of the bondage of self, that I may better do Thy will.
Take away my difficulties, that victory over them may bear witness to those
I would help of Thy Power, Thy Love, and Thy Way of life. May I do Thy will always!"

Chris, Alcoholic. Life is very good these days since I have learned (and am still learning) to get out of self. When I was new I was consumed with self that manifested in so much fear. I was consumed with it. Through the Steps I began to gain freedoms. I began to believe that I was just another bozo on the bus, no better than or less than anyone else. It was through the grace of God that removed me from the bondage of self and helped me recognize it. All I had to be was honest, openminded and willing to do the work. This continues to happen in my recovery today. As when I am disturbed there is always something wrong with me, and I get sidetracked off the spiritual path. I am so grateful that I have God in my life that I can give it over to still, and that I can see the ridiculousness of it. Thanks.
