AA Thought for the Day

We learned that we had to fully concede to our innermost
selves that we were alcoholics. This is the first step in recovery.
The delusion that we are like other people, or presently may be,
has to be smashed. We alcoholics are men and women who
have lost the ability to control our drinking. We know that
no real alcoholic ever recovers control.
- Alcoholics Anonymous, (More About Alcoholism) p. 30
Thought to Ponder
When we try to control our drinking, we have already lost control.

Chris and I am a real alcoholic. The book tells me that no real alcoholic ever regains control regardless of how much one wishes it so. I almost chased into the gate of insanity believing that lie that one day I would be able to enjoy and handle how much I drank. Never happened. This is the thought of every abnormal drinker. It was only when I hit bottom I began to learn the truth of my situation. That once an alcoholic, always an alcoholic and nothing was going to change that fact no matter how much I tried. It wasn't until I hit bottom that I knew this in my heart of hearts that I was truly a real alcoholic. It says it several times in our BB, the point being if you are a real alcoholic. I believe and know this is true for me in the deepest part of me. It is like this saying I heard, a pickle will never become a cucumber again.
