Our stories disclose in a general way what we used to be like,
what happened, and what we are like now. If you have decided
you want what we have and are willing to go to any length to
get it—then you are ready to take certain steps.

Thought to Ponder
What have I been given today? Am I willing to reach out and grasp it?

I am Garth, alky, and I was unconditionally willing. I had completed a fourth step and made an appointment with an fellow AA to do my fifth. He did not show up. So I worked for three more years adding to my fourth step (not recommended!) Finally one day after a 7 a.m. meeting in Tucson, AZ, my 'to become' sponsor for 18 years... a garrulous old cowboy asked 'what step are you on?' So he ordered me to come up to his house and I did and we started on the fifth step. I think it was at about page 14 and I looked st him and said, need I go on? He said, "Do you see a pattern?" Well I sure did! So that day we did steps 6, 7 and 8; and early that evening I made my first 9th step amends. I was/am so incredibly happy that that happened, an experience I will never forget. And even now I still often think of that old cowboy who became a mentor and then a friend. How he helped me and many others along the path of sobriety.
