Most emphatically we wish to say that any alcoholic capable of honestly
facing his problems in the light of our experience can recover, provided
he does not close his mind to all spiritual concepts. He can only be
defeated by an attitude of intolerance or belligerent denial. We find
that no one need have difficulty with the spirituality of the program.
Willingness, honesty and open mindedness are the essentials of recovery.
But these are indispensable.

Good morning friends, Kevin, a grateful Alkie. When I first came in to AA, I heard a lot of people talking about insanity. I have come to see this misused a lot, it is often used to rationalize bad behavior. My definition of insanity... joining a 12 step program and not taking the 12 steps. You just have to look around to see the lives changed to become willing. AA was a last stop for me. I didn't come here willing. But the 12 steps sorted out my life. I always wanted to be happy, not a lot to ask I thought. But the steps taught me happiness isn't the point. It's learning, and sharing your experience, helping others. And the 12 steps are the best model for doing that. Thanks all.
