A Good Beginning
If you have already made a decision, and an inventory of your grosser
handicaps, you have made a good beginning. That being so you have
swallowed and digested some big chunks of truth about yourself.

- Alcoholics Anonymous, (How It Works) p. 71

Thought to Ponder
If I have the courage to begin, I have the courage to succeed.

Pammy and I have alcoholism. When this step was explained to me I was excited. Shocked the hell out of my sponsor. For me, it meant a new change would happen for me. In the beginning of coming to AA I wanted my life to go back to what I considered normal. But for that to happen it meant the same mistakes would re-enter along with them. I didn't want that old life so I had to be willing to change. And looking at my past (re)actions I got to see how I could. Was a breath of fresh air to me and I was becoming someone that was always there hiding, waiting to emerge. This step is a gift and I am grateful to have experienced it. Thank you.
