Change in Attitude
During this process of learning more about humility, the most profound
result of all was the change in our attitude toward God. And this was true
whether we had been believers or unbelievers. We began to get over the
idea that the Higher Power was a sort of bush-league pinch hitter, to be
called upon only in an emergency. The notion that we would still live our
own lives, God helping a little now and then, began to evaporate.
- Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, (Step Seven) p. 75
Thought to Ponder
Humility is dependence on God, as pride is independence of Him.

I'm Charlie J and I have Alcoholism. We have to not drink AND be humble!? Nobody tells me nothing! [laughter] After Steps 4 and 5, I landed on Step 6. At first I wanted to know just how I could get ready for God to remove my shortcomings. Well I found out about 6 months later. My flaws, now that I became acutely aware of them, were kicking my butt. I had no idea what to do. I didn't want to act on them. I had already caused my loved ones enough pain and sorrow. So it was back to the book, Alcoholics Anonymous once again. I can assure you that with all the humility I could muster I went to the Higher Power and begged it, (begging was new for me,) to set me free. If you're new or are coming back to AA, welcome. "Keep it Simple" and Keep coming. Thanks.
