Revolutionary Change
They flatly declare that since they have come to believe in a Power greater
than themselves, to take a certain attitude toward that Power, and to do certain
simple things, there has been a revolutionary change in their way of living and
thinking. In the face of collapse and despair, in the face of the total failure of
their human resources, they found that a new power, peace, happiness, and
sense of direction flowed into them.

My name is Dale and I am an alcoholic. False Pride. I'm thinking that one thing above all else helped my get through that pride and that one thing was Acceptance. I had to fully concede, and accept, that I am an alcoholic. I had to accept there just might be some power greater than myself. Not only that, but that I could be helped by that greater power. After all the things I said and did regarding that power, it would be a miracle to find I could be helped. The real turning point before acceptance was that place of unimaginable loneliness, of total despair, of complete surrender. That was where I simply fell to my knees and asked God to help me. It was the moment that I understood that all of my efforts, my 100% desire to fix myself, all of that was given up. I had to seek another source of power. I had to let go of my ability to fix things. It was not working. Alcohol beat me into submission and from that point, life began again. It's been a sometimes slow and agonizing path but it has also been more rewarding than anything else in my life. I have a gift today, and I owe it to asking God for help. Thanks.
