A Psychic Change
On the other hand—and strange as this may seem to those who
do not understand—once a psychic change has occurred, the very
same person who seemed doomed, who had so many problems
he despaired of ever solving them, suddenly finds himself easily
able to control his desire for alcohol, the only effort necessary
being that required to follow a few simple rules.

Afternoon all, and thanks so much. Susan here, very grateful recovered alcoholic by God's Grace. Perhaps I was fortunate in that when I arrived I knew at gut level, without a doubt, that I could never ever drink again no matter what. Perhaps all my excuses had run out or I had covered all the methods of controlled drinking which didn't work. Who knows. My problem came after conceding to my inner most self that I was alcoholic. That was the second half of Step one, the spiritual malady or unmanageability part if you prefer. The booze was down for a period of time and guess what, I was still a mess. Today I get that is why people like me need to get the spiritual fix so to speak, and that just not drinking is not enough. Grateful to finally be at a place of ease and content as the result of working the Steps and maintaining a relationship with God. Thank you for sharing with me today. Blessings.
