Learning Daily
Learning daily to spot, admit, and correct these flaws is the essence of
character-building and good living. An honest regret for harms done,
a genuine gratitude for blessings received, and a willingness to try for
better things tomorrow will be the permanent assets we shall seek.

- Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, (Step Ten) p. 95

Thought to Ponder
Today, my brain has cleared with the grace of clarity.

My name is Woody and I am an alcoholic. I like what was said about recognizing old behavior patterns and calling yourself out on them. That is something I try to do regularly. I don't just report them to my sponsor. I make it a habit of calling myself out in meetings. It helps me to stay accountable. It takes a minute (and some pain) to recognize them sometimes, but I have a set of character defects that appear when I am in self will that I call "the script." "The script" used to end with a drink. After the compulsion had been removed via the steps it would end in an emotional hangover. Now I can usually see it coming before too much damage is done to myself or others. I couldn't do that without God and this program. I had scales over my eyes for years until I worked this program. I am grateful for my sobriety and for the chance, through God's grace, to recognize when I am stumbling. Thank you for letting me share.
