But now it appears that there are certain things which only the individual can do.
All by himself, and in the light of his own circumstances, he needs to develop the
quality of willingness. When he acquires willingness, he is the only one who can
make the decision to exert himself.

Thought to Ponder
What have I been given today? Am I willing to reach out and grasp it?

My name is Hope, alkie... formerly hopeless! "Rebellion dogs our every step at first." That is in the 12 and 12! So I must be alkie-normal. I did make a commitment, though. Finding that I somehow was in the right place, I committed to giving myself the best chance by following directions. Here's what I have found. The more I hated a direction/suggestion, the better it turned out if I just did it. The things I most resisted turned out to be exactly what I had needed. It still seems that way. [laugh] For example, I had many firm opinions on any topic that came up! My sponsor "suggested" that I say "I don't know" 20 times a day. I thought, what will THAT do? But I did it and reported back. She said good, now do it 40 times a day. By the time I did that a few days I was smiling when I said "I don't know" and was even amused! I saw how much I truly did not know. It was humility beginning. Then we moved on to "Thank You," 20, and then 40 times a day and I realized it changed my insides!! And then, the outside world too!! The crazy thing is this resistance at first and then taking the suggestions for me is ongoing. I recognize a really good suggestion now because I want to throttle the suggester! Then I say.. 'Whoa Hope, this must be a good one!' and it always is. When in distress, through husband's last illness, a young guy in my Group said... Hope, you should go to more meetings, women's meetings. I almost leapt at his throat and said, Ohhhh, this may be wisdom. I did the suggestion, doubled up on my meetings and it did work. None of these suggestions borne of experience and love work, unless and until I do them. Bless us dears!
