In His Mind
These observations would be academic and pointless if our
friend never took the first drink, thereby setting the terrible
cycle in motion. Therefore, the main problem of the alcoholic
centers in his mind, rather than in his body.

Roxie, grateful, recovered alcoholic by God's grace. I like this line Therefore, the main problem of the alcoholic centers in his mind, rather than in his body. Took me awhile after I came to AA to understand what an alcoholic and what alcoholism really were. I knew from that morning of my last drink, that moment of clarity from a higher power I had yet to meet, that I was done drinking for good. Yes, in beginning it was just don't drink till next meeting, play the tapes through, even the Living Sober book helped a lot in the early days. Didn't have online AA, cell phones, youtube then. So after the meeting was coffee shop then was just reading the Big Book all night, nap, read more, nap. Sure life was better just not drinking, doing lots of meetings and lots of service. But after living my life on self will run riot, my way, my thinking, I hit another what I call emotional bottom at 2 years sober. I was the closest to picking up a drink at the time because I wasn't happy with my sobriety and was insane. Was engaged to 2 guys at same time. Insanity! So I broke up with both guys. Fired my sponsor and got a new one. Fired the concept of a higher power and got a new stronger one. Jumped into the action of the steps that changed my thinking, my ideas, my emotions, my attitudes through a spiritual awakening. A new way to live. I love AA, all of you and God of my understanding. Thank you.
