Patience
I was like the proverbial "kid in a candy store."
I couldn't wait to get to Step Twelve; it was surely only a few months' work,
or so I thought!
I realize now that living the Twelve Steps of AA is a lifelong undertaking.

I’m Julie, an alcoholic. If had more ‘patients,’ I’d be a doctor. I have a 'need' list and a 'want' list. My needs are constantly met, but when things are going smooth, I always have to rock the boat and say, “But I want!” And when I want it, yesterday wasn't soon enough. When I came to AA, I wanted what most had. I stomped my feet when you said I couldn't have what you had -- I had to get my own. That just didn’t fly with me. So I watched, listened, did what you did, and I got what I have and I pretty much love it. Will I always have wants? Of course, but as long as I am happy with my needs I’ll continue to be a work in progress. My patience on some days is better than others. I’m sober every day because I worked for it. I want AA, don't need it. So I will keep coming back and work on my shortcomings. If no one tells you they love you today -- I do.
