A Right to be Wrong
The AA group would have to stick to its course or be hopelessly lost.
Sobriety had to be its sole objective.
In all other aspects there was perfect freedom of will and action.
Every group had the right to be wrong.

- Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, p. 147

Thought to Ponder . . .
There is no strength without unity.

AA-related 'Alconym' . . .
A A = All Accepted.

I'm an alcoholic, and my name is Thomas -- thankful to be sober. “The Right to be Wrong,” taken from As Bill Sees It regarding our First Tradition – Unity. I made a derisive comment about a meeting. One of my sponsors got me one evening over 30 years ago on that subject, and he promptly put me in my place. He said, we come to AA to stay sober, and asked me how to peel an orange. Puzzled, but responded on how I would peel an orange. He said, “OK, I do it differently.” How many ways are there to peel an orange? Are any of them wrong? The object is to peel the orange; how it's done is neither right nor wrong if the orange gets peeled. So it is with AA; we approach it all from a different perspective, many times things are said from that perspective, and many times the things being said are right, just said in different words. Without the ability to let folks come from a different perspective allows me to see more of the larger picture. Thank you for letting me share.
