Living in the Now
First, we try living in the now just in order to stay sober -- and it works.
Once the idea has become a part of out thinking,
we find that living life in 24-hour segments is an effective and satisfying way
to handle other matters as well.

- As Bill Sees It, p. 169

Thought to Ponder . . .
If I don't drink today, I have the hope of a tomorrow.

Hi all, I’m Deb, and I am an alcoholic. I never used to be able to take things one at a time. I always over-complicated the easiest things -- you know, 'pole-jumping over mouse turds.' It wasn't until AA and a little time here that I learned to slow down and stay in the moment, or one day at a time. At times, life gives me double helpings on my plate and I can still do a head spin over it all. A friend will give me what I need; a kick in the butt, a gentle push, a strong suggestion, or a simple reminder of what I need to do, or remember. The program has taught me not only one day at a time but sometimes just one thing at a time. I don't do well when planning ahead. And with that, I mean to say I have no clue about outcomes or others’ reactions. I need to stay in today and remember I am not God, do what I can today, and tomorrow, I'll work on what it brings. If you're new and thinking about being sober the rest of your life is more than you could comprehend, it is much easier to do one day at a time or to stay in the moment. By the grace of God, the program of AA, and the goodness of the Fellowship, I am sober today. Thank you for letting me share.
