Aloneness
Almost without exception, alcoholics are tortured by loneliness.
Even before our drinking got bad and people cut us off,
nearly all of us suffered the feeling that we didn't quite belong.

- Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, p. 57

Thought to Ponder . . .
God enters us through our wounds.

Hi, I'm Slam, and I'm an alcoholic. I believe this disease, without a conscious contact, is one of aloneness. I couldn't stand being by myself. That is one of the reasons I drank the way I did. I couldn't handle being in my own skin for too long. Then I got a little recovery and I started getting better. Today, I still do not like aloneness, except for the times I am making an effort to have a conscious contact with God -- as I understand God. Every morning when I wake up, I seek out a moment of solitude so that I may empty myself as best as I know how and can, and make space for God. Sometimes, I think I am clear with His still small voice, and at other times the silence is thunderous. What I have achieved has come through practice in making space for God. This morning was very fruitful; I walked outside at 5 a.m. in the snow and made space for God. As I was pondering, the idea that Light has come into a dark world, and as clearly as a bell, I knew that it would be Gods will for me to tell someone. And now, I have. That Light is the Light of God. And as we say, may we find Him now. Thanks for letting me share.
