Solitude
There is no more aloneness, with that awful ache,
so deep in the heart of every alcoholic that nothing, before, could ever reach it.
That ache is gone and never need return again.

- Alcoholics Anonymous, p. 276

Thought to Ponder . . .
The stillness of God speaks louder than a choir of voices.

AA-related 'Alconym' . . .

I’m Mab, an alcoholic. Life got so busy and chaotic in my drinking days, that I sought aloneness so I could drink in peace and quiet like after the kids were in bed. However, even in company, at work, with family, I felt "alone.” I felt isolated, trapped in my own head and fears and struggle, waiting for the time I could get some brief relief in the bottle. Today, again after a few years of sobriety, I seek those alone times, but don't feel "alone.” Those quiet times give space to inner thought to appreciate my blessings and to connect with this spiritual miracle and to my Higher Power. Meetings are pauses in the whirlwind of living, where also quiet thought, listening and connecting with HP through your hearts, heals my spirit and will to live well on this path. In quiet, there is wisdom. In stillness, God's word is heard. In meditation and rest, the soul and the body are replenished. Yes, some days when I don't take time to rest well, to meditate even briefly, or take a restful walk in nature, then loneliness and tiredness of the trudge can slip in. But, with a meeting and a little time out, those isolating ‘Poor Me’ thoughts are diminished. Here is a quote from Came to Believe (p. 109), saved to remind me of the benefit of quiet solitude: “When we cease to fear loneliness and begin to cherish and use our solitude to advantage, we have come a long way. We realize a little solitude is necessary to think and to try to work some of the Steps. In solitude, we take our inventories. In solitude, we admit the exact nature of our wrongs. In solitude, our spirits seek that Power greater than we are; in solitude, we seek through prayer and meditation to be aware of God's will for us.” Thanks for letting me share.
