Surrender
When we look back, we realize that the things which came to us
when we put ourselves in God's hands were better
than anything we could have planned.

Alcoholics Anonymous, p. 100

Thought to Ponder . . .
Avoidance is not the key; surrender opens the door.

AA-related 'Alconym' . . .
S W A T = Surrender, Willingness, Action, Trust.

My name is Lance and I am an alcoholic, very grateful for this program you people showed me. I was really worried right from the start you would kick me out as a loser, but my ego was at the same time weighing the balance. It does take a while and many meetings to let some simple concepts sink in, at least for me, like surrender -- total surrender. Part of me is like a craps player in Vegas who is on a losing streak, and thinking just one more time I will hit the jackpot. Nonsense! Grandiosity, I know well enough. But just hearing the topics at meetings gives me a new focus. And the one thing that stood out like a beam of light at most every meeting is that our Higher Power is right there in the middle of it. Embracing this HP is the wisest move to make to have a closer relationship. And, Wowers! The big bonus is you wonderful people here -- all special creatures in God's creation. It makes me feel very humbled to think of where I came from, and I don't want to forget it! Thanks for letting me share.
