House Cleaning
Somehow, being alone with God doesn't seem as embarrassing
as facing up to another person.
Until we actually sit down and talk aloud about what we have so long hidden,
our willingness to clean house is still largely theoretical.
When we are honest with another person,
it confirms that we have been honest with ourselves and with God.

- Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, p. 60

Thought to Ponder . . .
Trust God. Clean house. Help others.

AA-related 'Alconym' . . .
T L C = Tears, Laughter, Caring.

I'm Joanna, a grateful alcoholic. It’s really good to be here today. Step Five has forever been the one we get the willies over -- at least, I know I did. I avoided it like the plague at first. I wanted to earn my sponsor's admiration, and I knew if I told her my darkest secrets, she would run as far away from me as she could. In the end, my sponsor stopped 'suggesting,' and said let's get to work. I was scared to death. I had always kept things to myself and sure that anyone who really knew me would reject me. But Louise (my sponsor) only smiled as I began spilling my awfulness to her and said she knew exactly how I felt, bless her. What a relief! I was free! But I still had a very long way to go. I'm still working on it -- getting better, but certainly nowhere near perfect. And that's OK, because you understand me. God loves us all. We are His children. Step Five keeps my roots firmly planted in reality. When I finally got that notion through my very thick skull, I found that I wasn't a bad person after all. I'm just another bozo on the bus to recovery. I love you all. Thanks so much for letting me share.
