Spiritual Fitness
I know when I am spiritually fit
because at such times I have no desire to escape life,
but feel strengthened to deal with everything I am called upon to face.

My name is Hope, alcoholic. Sometimes I feel "in the groove" spiritually. Of course, I love that. Sometimes stuff piles up, and I buy into it, taking it very seriously. And, poof! I am not in that groove. I am blessed with AA friends who love me anyway, and I hope I pass that on a lot. But there’s one thing I like to do -- when I catch myself not in good place spiritually, I try to act as if I am in a good place -- the physical motion of a smile. Try it now! See? It is not 'fake.’ It is real change. Try putting arms high overhead, surrender style. See? Feels better! I can recapture the way into the groove anytime. At a meeting, someone once handed me a little pink pin when I was down. It said, “God's love is always with you.” I wore that inside clothes a long time, and now wear it in my heart. Thanks for letting me share.
