Promises
We will suddenly realize that God is doing for us what we could not do for ourselves.
Are these extravagant promises? We think not.
They are being fulfilled among us -- sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly.
They will always materialize if we work for them.
- Alcoholics Anonymous, p. 84
Thought to Ponder . . .
Within our wonderful new world, we have found freedom from our fatal obsession.
AA-related 'Alconym' . . .

I'm an alcoholic named Thomas; thankful to be sober. The Promises say we are going to have a new freedom and a new happiness. My sponsors in my early days used to stress that. One said, "you won't find the things that you think will make you happy in sobriety that you chased while you were drinking." Today, I understand that. The freedom from the drink brought that about my life is no bed of roses. It's not peaches and cream -- far from it. I get my share of thorns, and then some. And the peaches are sometimes rotten and the cream spoiled. I don't need to drink today, nor do I wish to. That's the new freedom .. living life like every other human being on the planet. I've been plagued with health problems for years; money troubles as well. I'm free of the old ways of acting or reacting. The program and the Fellowship have given me the freedom to be me, just the way I am; not some befogged fantasy from drinking. Guess I'm trying to say is that by following the Steps, listening to the folks in the Fellowship and getting out of self brings things to my life that can't be bought with any amount of money. I'm happy being sober. The rest is in the Creator's hands, and I have the freedom to choose today. I never had that when drinking.
