Perspectives
Our crippling handicap had been our lack of humility.
We had lacked the perspective to see that character-building and spiritual values
had to come first, and that material satisfactions were not the purpose of living.
Quite characteristically, we had gone all out in confusing the ends with the means.

- Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, p. 71

Thought to Ponder . . .
Your perspective will change your perception.
Your perception will change your experience.
Your experience is your life.

I'm Jay, an alcoholic.  The river runs just fine; don't mess with it.  This is hard for me.  I want to control.  Sometimes the best made plans are the ones we don't make.  It's always hard to tell.  When do we know the difference?  I wish I knew, but we make our mistakes.  We let the chips fall where they may.  He protects us and the ones we love.  I am able to see a possibly negative situation turn into a positive.  We love, we tolerate, we love and tolerate, we don't retaliate.  Do we take the high road?  I think we become neutral.  We are happy just spending time with the people we love.  I love being here.  I am at peace today.  I know I get to have one more day with my people and I also know it can be all taken away.  We have to take it one moment at a time.  We need to take the time for the people we love.  I get caught up in my own stuff, I must admit.  I lose perspective.  My daughter got mad me tonight -- she said I didn't spend enough time with her.  She is right.  I heard her.  Rather than be understood, I have to make some changes.  That's what we do: we change.  Thank you.
