Gratitude
We have been not only mentally and physically ill, we have been spiritually sick.
When the spiritual malady is overcome, we straighten out mentally and physically.

Thought to Ponder . . .
The Program was a dazzling gem being dangled before my eyes.

Sally, an alcoholic, here.  I am grateful to be here.  When I first got to AA, I heard, "Your sobriety is a gift from God, and what you do with it, is your gift back to God."  I embraced this program right from the start.  My hero in AA is Dr. Silkworth.  When I first read his letter to us
(Big Book, p. xxv), I found out what was wrong with me and why I could not stay stopped.  This is a two-fold illness, mentally and physically.  I found out that I have a spiritual malady and the Steps will give me a new way of living life on life's terms, and that my relationship with the God of my understanding will keep me sober.  What a life this has been!  I was also told that feelings are not facts, and I didn't like that at first.  I thought they were saying to me that my feelings aren't real.  But I found out that's not what they meant.  When I get overwhelmed with feelings today, I do what the book tells me to do: to write about it, then share it with another person.  Sounds easy, huh?  Well, that was very hard for me to do at first.  I was so afraid of what you were going to say to me.  Were you going to shame me?  And what I found out after I started calling folks was that they could relate, and they shared with me what they did.  Here, in AA, I am normal!  You all understand me, no matter where we come from, no matter what you believe or I do, we have a common solution to which we can all agree.  I have a design for living that I never knew was possible, and I cherish that.  I was brought here by a loving God so that I could meet Him, and I have .. one day at a time.  Thank you.
