Awareness
Today I must be aware of my alcoholism.
I cannot afford to believe that I have gained control of my drinking --
or again I will think I've gained control over my life.
Such a feeling of control is fatal to my recovery.

- Daily Reflections, p. 26

Thought to Ponder . . .
My sponsor gave me a "Humility" badge;
then took it away when I started wearing it.

AA-related 'Alconym' . . .
A A = Always Aware.

I'm Garth, an alcoholic.  My first sponsor was very laid back and almost never reprimanded me.  When I was sober two years, we took a four-day fishing trip on my charter boat.  I'd just earned my two-year chip and was pretty full of myself.  I was actually bragging.  Finally, he'd had enough of my cockiness and told me that I had better be careful of my attitude.  I was shattered, and went down into the cabin to think about it.  As I sat there looking at my two-year chip, I happened to look over to the counter where my 24-hour chip lay.  I then glued the 24-hour chip and the two-year chip together, and it worked!  Every time I looked at that glued-together chip it reminded me that I have only today.  Thanks.
