Release From Fear
The practice of AA's Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions in our personal lives
also brought incredible releases from fear of every description,
despite the wide prevalence of formidable personal problems.
When fear did persist, we knew it for what it was,
and under God's grace we became able to handle it.
- The Language of the Heart, p. 268

I'm Wyatt, an alcoholic. The story of my life was always about stress and fear. I lived in the past, worried about the future, and just couldn't seem to find a happy medium. I was afraid of living. A tired and broken man, and looking for nothing more than to get a hold on the drinking or to just get a hold on something, I found AA. I'd never stuck with anything. I'd always had the want but never seemed to follow through. I thought the Steps were just going to get me sober, but came to realize they're much more. The Steps are not just a guide to sobriety, but a guide for living. They are a guide to find the Higher Power I had kicked to the curb so many years ago. I saw the laughter around me in the rooms. I saw the peace in the faces, and I saw something else that had always eluded me: serenity. Somewhere in the Steps, I realized something one day -- the things I wanted were growing inside me. Stress was being replaced with serenity. Fear was being replaced with hope. My Higher Power was by my side. I am no longer afraid, God has my back. Thanks for always being here for me -- I love you all.
