Claudia here, an alcoholic. It wasn't until I came to AA that I heard the term "reverse pride." If I'm thinking too highly of myself, it's pride/ego. If I think too lowly of myself, I'm calling my Creator God/HP a liar. The word "pride" has "I" in the middle. It was all about "I, I, I, Me, Me, Me." Whether I was puffing myself up to look good, or putting myself down because I was comfortable being my own worst enemy. It was all about me. When I started taking the program seriously, when I got a sponsor and started to listen to her, when I started doing what had been suggested to me, when I worked on building a relationship with my Higher Power/God, it started to be about recovery, not me. This program does not work by osmosis. "I, I, I, and Me, Me, Me" does not have all the answers, and I had a whole lot to learn. The best thing was learning how to face one day at a time sober. Well, at first it was just not drinking. Sober didn't come until I started deeply working the Steps. I am a grateful recovered, not cured, alcoholic, because I surrendered myself, my will and my wrong thinking to my HP/God. And I learned how to allow myself to be a human being as opposed to a human doing. Thank you.

try to live the Steps, which can be a task some days more than others. But if you want to stay sober; if you feel you are done, then this program can help you stay sober one day at a time. Stick with the winners. And for the new people, try not to drink today and keep coming back. There are many miracles within our halls of AA. Thanks for letting me share.
