Making a List
The inventory was ours, not the other man’s.
When we saw our faults we listed them.  We placed them before us in black and white.
We admitted our wrongs honestly and were willing to set these matters straight.

- Alcoholics Anonymous, p. 67

Thought to Ponder . . .
It is the highest form of self-respect to admit mistakes and to make amends for them.

AA-related 'Alconym' . . .
H O W
= Honesty, Open-mindedness, Willingness.

Hi friends, my name is Julie, and I am an alcoholic like the Big Book describes.  I was told Step Six is our "willingness" to allow God to remove the defects of character we uncovered in Step Four.  It is a forgiveness of self, too, at least it was for me.  Step Four was very emotional, and this time in the program I went to a Fourth Step workshop which really helped me to understand how important it is to dig deep and become "entirely" ready to have my defects of character removed.  Skipping Steps 6 and 7 can be tragic/train wreck; we humbly ask Him to remove these shortcomings.  At this point my sponsor had me pause and allow this to happen.  I did feel a freedom after saying the Seventh Step prayer.  I felt as though I had been forgiven, and for me that was HUGE.  After a bit of time I was able to then proceed with making that list.  If you're new, or relatively new, and working the Steps for the first time, my experience has been that more will be revealed.  After trying to make a complete list to clean house, I found after 2 years that there was a group of people I missed because I had forgotten a certain incident.  I went back and made amends.  They had forgotten and were somewhat taken aback.  My program teaches me that cleaning house, cleaning my shortcomings and the wreckage of my past is key to staying sober.  So if you're new I hope you stay and find what I found, which is hope and a solution.  Thanks so much for letting me share and participate in my sobriety today.
