Warped Perception
It mattered little whether we had sat on the shore of life drinking ourselves into forgetfulness
or had plunged in recklessly and willfully beyond our depth and ability.
The result was the same—all of us had nearly perished in a sea of alcohol.

- Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, pp. 123-124

Thought to Ponder . . .
Few people have the imagination to see reality.

I’m Garth, an alcoholic.  When I was newly sober, I was running a charter boat making nine-day trips to the Baja Peninsula on the Sea of Cortez, Mexico.  Most of my clients were lawyers from Tucson, Arizona.  I had one repeat client, many trips, and I always made sure I had several cases of beer and bottles of rum on board.  One day, I told him I had quit drinking.  He said he was very glad I had as they were considering not going with me because of my drinking.  He asked if it would be OK if they brought one, I repeat, ONE six-pack of beer.  In my warped perception, I had convinced myself I had been bringing all the alcohol for them, not for me.  In fact, my perception was that everyone drank like me and that I was a normal drinker.  “NOT!”  This disease tells us we do not have it.  I think now my perceptions are pretty close to factual…most of the time.  But I need you and the Steps to stay on a somewhat even keel.  Thanks.
