Willingness
A beginning, even the smallest, is all that is needed.
Once we have placed the key of willingness in the lock and have the door ever so slightly open,
we find that we can always open it some more.

- Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, p. 35

Thought to Ponder . . .
If faith without works is dead; then willingness without action is fantasy.

AA-related 'Alconym' . . .

= Willingness, Honesty, Open-mindedness.

I’m Garth, an alcoholic.  When new, if I had looked at all the Steps all at once, I would have been overwhelmed.  So God did not guide me in this way, and I knew without a doubt, without reservation, that I could not stop drinking with my own will power.  I had tried and tried to no avail, so I was willing; I was an open book.  I cried at my first meeting and introduced myself as alcoholic.   I was so ashamed.  But the key was that I was willing; willing to do whatever was necessary.  And Lo and Behold!  It worked!  For since that very first meeting I have not had to take a drink or any mind-altering drug.  And when working the Steps, I love the part of the Big Book that says “willingness is the key.”  Willingness opens the door to recovery a tiny crack and then God steps in and does the rest.  Thank you.
