Persistence
If you persist, remarkable things will happen. When we look back, we realize
that the things which came to us when we put ourselves in God’s hands
were better than anything we could have planned.

I'm Peyton, sober by the grace of God who I found in working the Twelve Steps of AA. Persistence: I need to keep trying, regardless of how difficult it may seem... when I feel like I'm banging my head against a stone wall, when it seems easier to say, Oh let someone else be of service, etc. It starts with the Steps for me. I persisted in drinking for a very long time, I persisted in hurting the people I love the most, and I persisted in the insanity that precedes that first drink. That insane thinking of, this time I can handle it, I'll just have one or two. These were lies that my insane mind believed for a long time. So if I want sobriety, freedom from the insanity, freedom from the obsession, freedom to live life as I wanted to and never could manage to do, I must be persistent in working the Steps and applying them each day in my life. If I stay in the action called for in the Steps, I need never take another drink for the rest of my life. And that solution is here for every alcoholic who walks into the rooms as long as we persist in doing the work. Thanks for showing me how it works and that it does work if, and only if, I work it.
