Twelve Steps
A.A.’s Twelve Steps are a group of principles, spiritual in nature,
which, if practiced as a way of life, can expel the obsession to drink
and enable the sufferer to become happily and usefully whole.

Hello, I'm Charlie J, and I still have Alcoholism. Thank you all for your shares. Welcome to our new / newer AA friends. If drinking is your problem, AA offers a solution. At one time the closest I came to a spiritual life was from drinking the spirits that came in a bottle. That was a dead end, and nearly cost me my life to find out I just couldn't live that way any longer. Thankfully, there is an abundance of 'spiritual tools' found in the book Alcoholics Anonymous. My goal to have a spiritual experience started at Step Three; a search for a Higher Power or God. I did find one that works for me. Then it was on to the rest of the Steps. Steps Four and Five helped clear away the worst of my personality flaws or defects. Steps Six and Seven made me ready to accept the spiritual help from a Higher Power so I could continue to grow. Steps Eight and Nine allowed me to go back again to see where even more flaws were hiding and also allowed me to try to clean up my side of the street. Step Ten allowed me to see where I was wrong and right. Often being wrong it gave me a plan to continue to keep my side of the street clean. Step Eleven is where I have worked to hone my prayers and meditation. I want to pray rightly, and to listen to a Higher Power's direction. Step Twelve has been the most rewarding as I get to not only have a spiritual experience, but also can practice all I have learned inside of AA and outside, as well as 'try' to carry this message to others. Only by the Grace of God I am the person I am today. There is an admonition in the ‘Big Book:’ "There are no exceptions. If we do not follow these simple principles we are doomed to repeat." That's ... drink again! For our new friends, if you think that's just dumb, keep coming and your friends in AA will prove that it's a fact. Thanks.
