Healing
Provided you hold back nothing, your sense of relief will mount from minute to minute.
The dammed-up emotions of years break out of their confinement,
and miraculously vanish as soon as they are exposed.
As the pain subsides, a healing tranquility takes its place.
- Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, p. 62

Hello Family, my name is Lance, and I am an alcoholic sober today by God's grace. I was not a hard alcoholic, just a really good one. It took a very bad bottom to convince me I had a big problem. After all, wasn’t it fun drinking? I broke bones, loose on the streets, lost a good job, and pretty much was a sore for eyes to behold. One night, feeling at the end, I took a look in the mirror. Staring back at me was a frightened old man, scared and totally insecure. I screamed at God, God help me! It wasn't long afterwards that I went to my first AA meeting and haven’t stopped since. With each of the Steps, I've found a certain spiritual understanding. It is earned, sometimes given us. It does ask a few things of us, like honesty, humility and the like. But before going back to where I was, I give it serious thought. I no longer want the way I was. I would rather stick with the winners online and at my face-2-face meetings. With all that pain we all know so well, it's through the wounds that our spiritual healing can happen. Pain means growth and, boy howdy! do we know pain! Thanks for letting me share. Welcome newcomers to AA-Alive. We're very happy to see you all here with us!
