Step One
“We admitted we were powerless over alcohol—that our lives had become unmanageable.”

Thought to Ponder . . .
Take the first step in faith. You don't have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.

Hello Family, my name is Lance and I am alcoholic, very touched by all the shares today. When you think about it, the chances of recovery from this disease are very slim indeed. Few make it to the sober side. Until there is a solid Step One...total honesty...we keep lying to others and to ourselves mostly. They say it takes a good 90 days sobriety before the fog clears. So it’s no wonder doing 90 meetings in 90 days is often recommended. I loved what a member shared today about a "joyous surrender." We who have survived this disease have every right to happiness, even celebration if you will, but not to forget our main purpose, to take the message to the still suffering alcoholic. We must never forget our goal, to help others reach sobriety. I try to do a mini Step 1-2-3 daily, and get on to others that maybe more important for me. I know that it’s not a matter of how much we drink or how often, but what it does to us. It can warp our thinking even further to such an unrealistic state that we can justify anything we do. Step One means that I take some responsibility for my life and what I do and even think. Thanks for letting me share. Don't give up this spiritual battle, it's worth the fight.
