Fearless and Thorough

At some of these we balked. We thought we could find an easier, softer way.
But we could not.  With all the earnestness at our command, we beg of you to
be fearless and thorough from the very start.  Some of us have tried to hold
on to our old ideas and the result was nil until we let go absolutely.

Thought to Ponder . . .
Courage is not the absence of fear, but the action in spite of the fear.

Bill and I am an alcoholic.  When first contemplating the steps who can comprehend what they mean?  Not me, so I did the best I could, and went forward feeling scared and unsure of myself.  I would imagine that this is common to new alkies.  So even though fearful, I asked God for help.  And eventually that turned into my frequent prayer of asking God to show me what he wants for me.  I discussed the most embarassing things in step 5 and went forward.  I think that is what counted, going forward doing the best I could, with knees knocking at times.  But the power behind me is much much greater than whatever makes my knees knock.  I invite others to take a turn through the steps and see what happens.  And I believe that others will have good stories to tell in AA rooms.  Stay sober today everyone, ask HP to show you the way.
