Dependence

The minute we put our work on a service plane, the alcoholic commences to rely upon our
assistance rather than upon God. He clamors for this or that, claiming he cannot master alcohol
until his material needs are cared for. Nonsense.  Some of us have taken very hard knocks to learn this truth:
Job or no job—wife or no wife—we simply do not stop drinking so long as we place dependence
upon other people ahead of dependence on God.

- Alcoholics Anonymous, p 98

Thought to Ponder . . .
In AA we don't carry the alcoholic; we carry the message.

AA-related 'Alconym' . . .
F R O G  =  Fully Rely On God.

Howdy all, great to be here.  Susan, grateful recovered alcoholic by Gods Grace.   I felt like sharing the most dreaded sentence that I personally hear on occasion in AA about sponsorship....  "my sponsor saved my life."  Every time I hear it, I want to cringe as obviously the wrong message has gotten through.  As yet, I have NEVER nor will I EVER save anyone's life.  If I think I have, that's ego working big time and I am in big trouble.  God has a wicked sense of humor, and when not that long ago really, I was being very lazy and rather self centered.  God laughed and said, you need more work Susan, and blessed me with several sponsees so I could continue to learn and grow.  For this I am truly grateful and blessed.  Watching them and their relationship with their HP (some of them) almost puts me to shame.  Great reminder for me.  As for passing this program forward as written, I no longer consider it a responsibility, but an expression of gratitude to my God for the many blessings He has given me.  Thanks for listening and sharing.
