The Taproot
Proved beyond doubt by an immense experience, this is one of
the facts of A.A. life. The principle that we shall find no enduring
strength until we first admit complete defeat is the main taproot
from which our whole Society has sprung and flowered.

- Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, (Step One) pp. 21 - 22

Thought to Ponder
We surrender to win.

I'm Larry and I'm an alcoholic. I really had no idea when I walked into my first AA meeting that it would lead me to where I am today. That's not a sales pitch. I truly mean that. My entire outlook on life has changed and I'm reaping huge rewards by following the path you guys laid out. The journey has taken me places I never thought I would or could go. Both physically and spiritually. It's a hell of a ride. Mostly good. And the reading really does make a good analogy of my experience. Every blessing, every pleasure, everything worthwhile in my life is directly tied to my taproot. My taproot of defeat. Of admitting to my innermost self that I could not manage my own life. Any time I've let myself stray, that taproot stops nourishing. I begin to be the old me. So I try to keep it pretty simple.
