Forgiveness
We've repeatedly strained the patience of our best friends to a
snapping point, and have brought out the very worst in those who
didn't think much of us to begin with. In many instances we are
really dealing with fellow sufferers, people whose woes we have
increased. If we are now about to ask forgiveness for ourselves,
why shouldn't we start out by forgiving them, one and all?
- Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, (Step Eight) p. 78
Thought to Ponder
The number one way to relieve pain is to forgive.

I'm Larry and I'm an alcoholic. Someone showed me something after I was sober awhile that I had never really put much thought into. If I look at my line 1 in my 4th step and I see how a person offended me in column 1. When I move on to other lines and look at my own behaviors in column 4, I'm now the biggest hypocrite that I know. I'm holding against you what I'm condoning in myself. Hmmm. The Lord's Prayer talks about being forgiven as we forgive others. I used to think "as we forgive those" meant doing it at the same time. Today, through painful experience, I know that I'm not forgiven for anything until I've forgiven others. I'm not that special.
