A Decision
We can have faith, yet keep God out of our lives. Therefore our problem now
becomes just how and by what specific means shall we be able to let Him in?
Step Three represents our first attempt to do this. In fact, the effectiveness of
the whole A.A. program will rest upon how well and earnestly we have tried to
come to "a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God
as we understood Him."

- Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, (Step Three) pp. 34 - 35

Thought to Ponder
Avoidance is not the key; surrender opens the door.

Good morning, I'm Dale and I am an alcoholic. For me, the biggest change in my sobriety came after some 15 years when everything in my life was upside down. I wasn't thinking about getting drunk (I rarely just had a drink,) but it was all spinning wildly out of control. And I said these words, "God, you're in charge." There was no signing of the papers, no handshake agreement. I didn't even hear a booming OK from out of the clouds. But at that moment, when I uttered those words several things happened. Step 3 was finally completed and a weight was lifted from me. I walked freely, unburdened by the daily thoughts. That all happened in the year 2000. Here were are now, nearly 24 years later and that weight is still lifted. The daily burdens still come, but I have help now to carry them. And I am grateful for the freedom that came from, "God, you're in charge." Thanks.
