Too Much Time
We find it a waste of time to keep chasing a man who cannot or
will not work with you. If you leave such a person alone, he may
soon become convinced that he cannot recover by himself. To
spend too much time on any one situation is to deny some other
alcoholic an opportunity to live and be happy.
- Alcoholics Anonymous, (Working With Others) p. 96
Thought to Ponder
AA is not for people who need it, it's not even for
people who want it; it's for people who will work it.

Morning all and thanks. Susan, very grateful recovered alcoholic by Grace. I am reminded this morning of something stated clearly in, "Working with Others," step 12. Don't waste your time with someone who will not work with you. Not the exact quote, but close. I remember being shocked at that, until I had some experience with reality. [laugh] Many will say they want this, but few will actually do it. That is what I have witnessed over time. They want to do it their way, or from various literatures etc. I am powerless to assist anyone unless they are prepared to follow through with instructions. It's a great reminder to me. I can tell you that I wanted it and was even willing to do it when I got here, but was presented with all kinds of things that are not the real solution AA offers us from the Big Book. I am grateful I survived those early days, although it was needlessly extra painful. Grace, indeed. Thanks all.
