Living and Thinking
They flatly declare that since they have come to believe in
a Power greater than themselves, to take a certain attitude
toward that Power, and to do certain simple things, there has
been a revolutionary change in their way of living and thinking.

- Alcoholics Anonymous, (We Agnostics) p. 50

Thought to Ponder
It's hard to fight an enemy who has outposts in your head.

My name is Woody and I am an alcoholic. I treat my mind as if it is a foreign entity that wants to kill me 24-7. It will use whatever trick it can to get the reward it wants. It will distort things and blow things out of proportion in an attempt to get me to drink to oblivion. It will also flatter me in an attempt to inflate my ego. Action is the only thing that works for me. If I do my readings, my meetings and work steps ten, eleven and twelve on a daily basis, it keeps my mind grounded in the program and in check. If I stray, I can always act my way back into better thinking by resuming the things I have neglected. As someone says, this is a disease of my perception and my perception can become easily warped if I get too far off of the beam. In addition to the action, there is always that still, small voice that guides me. That can only come from a Higher Power. Thank you for letting me share.
