Gratitude
How much better it would have been had I felt gratitude rather than self-satisfaction
-- gratitude that I had suffered the pains of alcoholism,
gratitude that a miracle of recovery had been worked upon me from above,
gratitude for the privilege of serving my fellow alcoholics.

- The Language of the Heart, p. 36

Thought to Ponder . . .
I am grateful for this minute; my eternity may be in it.

AA-related 'Alconym' . . .
A A = Altered Attitudes.

Joannie here, an alkie for sure. As I sat here in the room this past month, I heard a lot of discouragement -- bills coming in, holiday over, sense of giving gone mostly. I thought, yep, I am right along with everyone on that. Then I realized I haven't been grateful; grateful for all that has been given me in this program and from the Grace of God. We may not think of it as something to be grateful for, and think maybe we deserve it – meaning that whatever income we have now, we always want more, or meaning, I am not done with any Steps, so nothing to be grateful for. But we found Alcoholics Anonymous and found Hope to be grateful for. This is such a complex world we live in, and we need to come back to the basics: Do I have roof over my head today? Food to eat, even if it isn't steak? Did we make it yesterday without a drink of alcohol? -- that’s a big one for me to be grateful for. And lastly, we have today to make a stab at helping another alcoholic. Someone said to me the other day, “Your share two days ago made a lot of sense to me.” I don't remember what it was, and I didn't ask. I was just grateful I helped someone. Thank you all for letting me share.
