Self-will
So our troubles, we think, are basically of our own making.
They arise out of ourselves, and the alcoholic is an extreme example
of self-will run riot, though he usually doesn't think so.
Above everything, we alcoholics must be rid of this selfishness.
We must, or it kills us! God makes that possible.

- Alcoholics Anonymous, p. 62

Thought to Ponder . . .
If I self-forget I find.

AA-related 'Alconym' . . .
S W A T = Surrender, Willingness, Action, Trust.

I'm Patty and I'm an alcoholic. I'm at this meeting today because my head is driving me crazy. I lost my job three weeks ago today, which is a good thing (I think) because it was an awful job. But here I am, not-so-young, needing a job. I live alone. I have been clean and sober since 12/01/11, and a member of AA for a long time. I really need a new life. I'm doing a new inventory, and it is freaking me out how much self-will has screwed me up. I was sober, but then made education my higher power and I lost sobriety. I was sober, but then I went on my own, teaching at two colleges, driving myself crazy, and then went out again. I was unemployed for my first year sober this time and got a really awful job, but it was a job. And now, I have no job. I am so glad you are here. I am praying that in this second half of my life I stay on track and stay accountable. Drinking for me is to be completely enslaved. And I really know what insanity before a drink looks like, and I don't want this. So I'm going to be quiet now and listen to you. Thanks for listening.
