A Path to Faith
True humility and an open mind can lead us to faith,
and every AA meeting is an assurance that God will restore us to sanity
if we rightly relate ourselves to Him.

- Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, p. 246

Thought to Ponder . . .
Believe more deeply.
Hold your face up to the Light,
even though for the moment you do not see.

They call me Hugh, and I’m an alcoholic who didn't drink today. When I first drank, I thought I had found the Fountain of Youth. Alcohol made me feel better than anything else at that time. Over time, and not really that long, alcohol aged me. When I was 24, people thought I was in my 40's. Alcohol dehydrates us so that we look older than we are. I have been sober a few years and people can't believe I am almost 90 -- well, I am not -- I am only 60. But I think you get the idea. People who know me say I look so much better. This program has taught me to rely on a Higher Power. The paradox is that the more I rely on my HP the stronger I get. Now, I am on the path I was meant to be on. Alcohol kept me "asleep." I feel like ‘Rip Van Winkle’ in many ways. I am asking some questions I should have asked 40+ years ago. When I stopped drinking, other things that I’d had before I started drinking kept me asleep negatively. So I had to work with my HP, you and others on changing myself. When the changes started happening, I started having a deep sense of thankfulness. And as long as I rely on my HP, more will be revealed and that is certainly an exciting prospect. Thanks for letting me share.
