Twelve Steps
AA's Twelve Steps are a group of principles, spiritual in their nature,
which, if practiced as a way of life, can expel the obsession to drink
and enable the sufferer to become happily and usefully whole.

Hi everyone, I'm Michael, an alcoholic. It's been 9 years and a few days since my last drink. I worked a good program when I started 9 years ago. I got a sponsor and worked ALL Twelve Steps to the best of my ability. You see, the Steps are the program. The reason for the meetings is to help us find a sponsor and work the 12 Steps. The 12 Steps saved my life. They helped me figure out that being an alcoholic involves two things -- whenever I have a drink I have an actual physical craving for another drink and another, and another, and being an alcoholic means that I will always come back to thinking I can drink safely in the future. It took the Steps to believe in a Higher Power who has the power to remove me from alcohol. I could have never done it myself, and believe me, I tried. It's great to be sober. My desire for alcohol has been removed because of working the 12 Steps. Thanks!
