Prayer
We finally did experiment, and when unexpected results followed, we felt different;
in fact, we knew different; and so we were sold on meditation and prayer.
And that, we have found, can happen to anybody who tries.
It has been well said that "almost the only scoffers at prayer are those who never tried it enough."

- Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, p. 97

Thought to Ponder . . .
Trying to pray is praying.

AA-related 'Alconym' . . .
A S A P = Always Say A Prayer.

Hello Friends!  I'm Virginia, an alcoholic.  When I first came to Step Three I had just (finally) come to believe there could be a solution for me in AA.  But I was still very afraid that my Higher Power wanted nothing to do with me.  I hadn’t yet fully realized HP was keeping me sober.  I was still a ball of anxiety and bounced around like a bird caught in a house.  It was suggested I recite the Third Step prayer [Big Book, p. 63] for fourteen days, every morning and every time I felt anxious:  “God I offer myself to Thee -- to build with me and do with me as Thou wilt.  Relieve me of the bondage of self, that I may better do Thy will.  Take away my difficulties, that victory over them may bear witness to those I would help of Thy Power, Thy Love and Thy way of life.  May I do Thy will always!"  Honestly, I didn’t believe it would help, but I was desperate.  I had prayed many times before sobering up and felt it landed on deaf ears.  I realize now I did get answers, just not the ones I wanted.  So I tried it, and an amazing thing happened!  By the third day I was feeling better!  By the end of two weeks, I felt like a different person.  I am not kidding or exaggerating.  It calmed me down enough to move forward on the Steps and enjoy life more.  It was truly the beginning of a new life at that point.  To this day, I recite it every day, and every time I am troubled.  Thanks for letting me share.
