Pass It On
I'll never forget the first time I met Bill Wilson.
I was a couple of months sober and so excited,
so thrilled to actually meet the co-founder that I gushed all over him
with what my sobriety meant to me and my undying gratitude for his starting AA.
When I ran down, he took my hand in his and said simply, "Pass it on."

Thought to Ponder . . .
In AA we don't carry the alcoholic; we carry the message.

I'm Joe, an alcoholic. This getting old stuff is tiring me out! The past two weeks I've been enveloped in AA in many ways, shapes, and forms. I had a sponsoree fly in from Southern California to my Florida home to celebrate his 25-year AA anniversary. We had met in California but not thru AA. Actually, he was a young buck cutting lawns and trying to figure out how come the world wasn't working out for him. Twenty-five years later, he lives in Beverly Hills and travels the world trouble-shooting sophisticated computer systems. What a joy it was to carry the message and spend those endless hours together in the spirit of Fellowship! It also allows me to be much more appreciative to those who passed on the same to me. We need never forget that the spirit of our Fellowship lives and has great importance to pass it on. One very important message I received from my now 69 year-old sober 'sponson' is simply there are no shortcuts through the process of recovery. I also need to say that every time I tried, I got my butt kicked big time. Point being to my fellowship peers: it's a fruitless venture, and I'm undoubtedly no different than my fellows.
